As a short exercise I tried to breakdown the wordless play I watched into a storyboard. This was just to see if this could be done to allow the story to be told within a picture book format. The first act was to thumbnail each separate scene from the play, this resulted in the creation of 29 thumbnails. My initial thoughts as I was sketching out these panels was perhaps the story would be more likely to suit a graphic novel. However once I had panelled out the scenes I decided to try and pull out 14 of the most important scenes. This number was chosen as it seems a reasonable amount to be able to transfer into picture book format. As I was able to do this I realised that this play could be transferred but using only these 14 scenes may build a rather disjointed story plot, especially if I were keeping to the wordless format. This seemed an important part of the story as one of the major issues was not discussing problems etc. To overcome this issue and for the story to work within a picture book context there would have to be pages that were more like a graphic novel with multiple panels to show the transitions between some scenes and build a more fluid storyline. This exercise was only to see if it could be transferable and not something I am going to pursue much further as it would likely be an infringement of copyright. However it was till useful as a mental exercise for my mind to work out how such a story might be altered into other formats, my thumbnails and thoughts are shown below as this could be useful in creating adaptations in the future.
