wc 12/10/15 progress, reflection and ideas

Progress

According to my programme of works this week was only focused on obtaining literature and journals on either picture books, metaphors or other related topics. I feel that progress has been made in that I have found several academic journals which I am working through. I have posted this week about a book which will help me with possible techniques and practises I can bring into my work. Also currently trying to work my way through a book titled Visual Metaphor and the Contemporary Artist. This book is academically written and can only be digested in small sections. I have tried just getting information from points of interest but I struggle to gain a full understanding. Therefore decided to try and read from beginning until I gain a better understanding of the subject. This week I will continue with reading journals and I have a visit arranged for Seven Stories in Newcastle for the next two days. Also on Saturday I will travel to London and stay until the Wednesday night. This will affect my weekly reflections but I will fit in either before or after London depending on progress etc.

Reflection

Up until now I have felt that my overall progress with this project has been rather slow although fairly steady. However I now feel as though I am just beginning to gain an understanding of what it is that I am trying to do. I have learned that more serious issues within picture books are what interest me the most. I am still unsure if it is the use of metaphors or whether it is more related to interpretation and understanding. The fact that issues can be resolved within a story or remain unsolved thereby opening the subject up to question also seems thought provoking. Although having read many picture books lately many have not been studied or blogged about. This is something that must be rectified soon.

Ideas

Write more in depth analysis reports on books I find of interest. Perhaps carry out studies by asking others what they think, this could be done after I have analysed the works myself to give comparison between my own thoughts and the thoughts of others. Try using other methods of gaining knowledge or inspiration, allowing for play which are all part of the reason for the trip to London. Looking into other fields of work may help me in unexpected ways.
