Whilst looking for other opinions or academic papers I found an interview with Shaun Tan that was written by Chuan-Yao Ling. The interview delves into several aspects of Tan's work. His background and the evolution of his creative process, use of colour, picture books as an art form, originality and gaps for the reader are all discussed in the interview. Many of Tan's responses actually seem like common sense, challenging himself becomes a theme present throughout and most importantly the amount of research and experimentation required to create such works. These answers give an insight on practises, ways of thinking and may help form a more cohesive case study, exerts from this interview are shown below.
