Another paper written by Shaun Tan titled Originality and Creativity discusses creative processes and states how inspiration comes from careful research and through looking for challenges. Originality can be deemed to be familiar things proposed in an unfamiliar fashion. This paper is very interesting to me as I have realised that my time in University has lead to me thinking differently. Realising that nothing is completely original, only ideas being put together in a new way which is essentially what creativity is at it's core creates originality. Stepping away from stereotypes, experimenting with themes, topics or materials that may bring unexpected results. These are some of the most important mind sets I will leave University with, thinking outside of the box resonates with me continually as I hope it always will in the future. This paper gives me a greater insight into the mind of Shaun Tan, how he thinks or approaches works and also reaffirms to me that I am starting to take the right track on how my own thinking has changed over the last few years. I will look more into actual art practices of the artist before compiling all the information I have gathered and write my first draft of this particular case study on the artist Shaun Tan, exerts of this paper are shown below.
